Zinta was born in the year 1975 to a Hindu Rajput family of Rohru in Himachal Pradesh, India. Zinta has a struggling childhood days full of pain and grief. Her father Durganand was an officer in Indian army who unfortunately died in a car accident when she was just thirteen years of age. Zinta was completely heart broken by the death of her father. Her mother was also severely injured and was bed ridden for years after this accident. Zinta has two brothers Deepankar who is a commissioned officer in Indian army and the other one is Manish who is settled in Los Angeles.

In 2003, Zinta was riding on a golden wing as she gave three huge box office hits- The Hero: Love Story Of Spy, Koi Mil Gaya and Kal Ho Naa Ho. Working with the most charming and lovable star of bollywood Hrithik Roshan in Science fiction movie Koi Mil Gaya, zinta earned a biggest domestic gross of Rs 489 million.
