He may not be as flashy as a Sanjay Leela Bhansali or Karan Johar, but this man knows the pulse of the audience. Silently and yet strongly, Anees Bazmee has two of the biggest hits in this decade: No Entry(2005) and Welcome(2007). Anees is well on his way to score a hat-trick with Singh is Kinng. But even if you can use illogical brilliance as a parameter, Singh is Kinng is nothing compared to Anees’ best work till date No Entry.
Story of Singh is Kinng:
Singh is Kinng was the most awaited movie of the season and it has lived to the expectations(not exceeded them unfortunately), save for its tame climax. You cannot look for a logical story in an Anees Bazmee film, so one basically goes to get entertained. And it does not disappoint. Happy Singh(Akshay Kumar) is a village bumpkin who does nothing but mischief and irritate everyone in the village. Fed up of his antics, the villager decided to pack him and send him to Australia to look for their bretheren Lucky Singh(Sonu Sood) in Australia. Akshay Kumar and Om Puri, his friend, starts off for Australia, but due to a comical mistake, they end up in Egypt. In Egypt, Akshay Kumar meets Katrina Kaif whom he falls in love with. By the time Akshay Kumar and Om Puri reach their destination Australia, they are penniless. However Happy(Akshay)gets love, affection and monetary help through an old lady played by Kiron Kher.
Akshay Kumar visits Lucky Singh(Sonu Sood’s den) and pleads with him to come back to Punjab but the don and his cronies are in no mood to relent. Speaking of the don, Sonu Sood has people like Sudanshu Pandey, Yashpal Sharma, Javed Jaffery, Manoj Pahwa and Neha Dhupia in his gang. Akshay Kumar saves the don from a chance attack on his life. Sonu Sood become paralytic and numb. The sequence at the hospital is top class where the almost invalid Sonu Sood moves his unrelenting fingers, accusing Akshay Kumar of playing foul. But since no one in the group can understand what Sonu Sood is saying, they think that he wants Akshay to be the Kinng of the underworld. Akshay is crowned the Kinng. It turns out later that Kiron Kher is the mother of Katrina Kaif and that she is getting married to one Ranvir Shourey. Akshay Kumar converts the whole scenario from an underworld den to an affluent mansion so that Ranvir and Katrina are impressed with Kiron’s elegance. There is parallel track of Akshay’s own romantic emotions for Katrina. There is also a plot hatched to terminate Akshay Kumar, from a member of his own group. How he overcomes these problems and gets Lucky and his cronies back to India is the crux of the story.
Technicalities of Singh is King:
Singh is Kinng scores on editing and the direction of Anees Bazmee. The music by Pritam is the USP of the film. Pritam has given one of his best for Singh is King. All the numbers are zingy and danceable save for the romantic track “Teri Or”.
Best scenes of Singh is Kinng:
1. The hospital sequence where Sonu Sood’s silent denials are misinterpreted totally by his gang invited a lot of laughs
2. Emotional scene of Yashpal Sharma when he undergoes a change of heart seeing the pitiful conditions of the Black family he had harassed.
3. Humorous scenes of Javed Jaffery
4. The scene where Lucky’s cronies wear masks of SRK, Aamir, Sunny Deol and Amitabh Bachchan. Just goes to prove that outrageously funny moments can spring from silly situations.
Minus points of Singh is Kinng:
1. Absence of a good climax. Singh is King does not have a climax that can draw whistles. It was rather tame for a movie that had a fast pace.
2. Nasty digs on SRK, looked like as if it was added forcefully.
3. The second half is not as funny as the first half.
4. There could have been funnier situations
5. The second double role of Javed Jaffery as Ranvir;’s dad looked totally out of the picture.
6. Ranvir Shourey a fine actor should take better roles, or he will be typecast in the Mohnish Behl image.
Performances in Singh is Kinng:
Katrina Kaif is the delight for the camera. Katrina looks slimmer and oh so gorgeous in the film. She doesn’t have much to do in the film. Neha Dhupia looks sexy and is quite convincing as a glamorous moll. All the supporting cast, Yashpal Sharma, Sudhanshu Pandey, Manoj Pahwa and Javed Jaffery excel in their respective roles. Kiron Kher, Sonu Sood and Ranvir Shourey perform their parts to the hilt. But the cream of the cast is Om Puri and of course Akshay Kumar. Om Puri compliments Akshay Kumar very well, especial in the first half. But the best part about Singh is Kinng is Akshay Kumar. It is a movie that will lap up with every Akshay Kumar fan, and that tribe is a lot.
Conclusion:
Singh is Kinngh is a movie smartly made to excel at box office. The movie should score well with the NRI audiences, particularly because of the Sikh populace. There have been many movies made with sardars as comic relief or as power motivators. Singh is Kinng is the first big budgeted commercial movie to be made on the lion hearted Sikh clan. All in all a trigger happy product. Time for Singhing and Dancehing!

Bazmee has the knack of making immensely watchable fares that cater to the aam junta. SINGH IS KINNG isnât a laughathon
in entirety. Comedy, romance, action and drama, everything is well synchronised in those 2.10 hours here.
But, wait, SINGH IS KINNG isnât a foolproof product. It has its share of flaws, the turn of events arenât captivating at
times, but SINGH IS KINNG moves so fast and packs in so much, thereâs no time to think or analyze.
The final word? SINGH IS KINNG is a delicious and scrumptious pav-bhaji served in the finest cutlery. Your taste buds
are sure to relish it⦠and ask for more!
Lakhan Singh aka Lucky [Sonu Sood] is the King of the Australian underworld, accompanied by his associates [played by Javed
Jaffrey, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma, Kamal Chopra and Sudhanshu Pande]. Far away, in a small village in Punjab,
where Lucky was born, there exists someone more notorious than him -- Happy Singh [Akshay Kumar].
The village is fed up of Happyâs magnanimity, which has resulted in a number of hilariously disastrous situations. Out of
desperation, they decide to send him on a long trip [that will keep him out of the village for a while!] to bring Lucky back
to Punjab, as his despicable deeds were maligning their image in Australia.
The happy-go-lucky bumpkin, taking his mission a bit too seriously, embarks on his journey, accompanied by his friend,
Rangeela [Om Puri], who hates Happy for dragging him into it.
The high point of his journey is his chance meeting with Sonia [Katrina Kaif], with whom he falls in love, but upon reaching
his destination, things take a precarious turn as he runs into a series of comic misadventures, leaving him penniless. He is
fortunate to find warmth and affection in an elderly lady [Kirron Kher].
In a strange turn of events, an attempt on Luckyâs life is foiled by a well-intentioned Happy, who fights off the attackers
by risking his own life. Following the altercation, Lucky lands up in hospital paralyzed and Happy, unexpectedly, finds the
tables turned on him when he is expected to assume the role of the new King.
Few minutes into the film and you know that SINGH IS KINNG is a lavish spectacle thatâs high on entertainment. Sonu Sood
chasing a gora assassin at the very start or minutes later, Akshay chasing a hen -- SINGH IS KINNG starts with gusto.
And Bazmee doesnât let you wear your thinking caps all through the first hour. From India to Egypt to Australia, from the
comforts of his home in Punjab, to the humble abode of a woman selling flowers in Sydney [Kirron Kher], SINGH IS KINNG
involves you in the journey.
And then Akshay becomes the King. Oh, how he becomes the King is equally hilarious. The sequence at the hospital [Sonu Sood
is diagnosed with a weird disorder] is simply hilarious. Thereâs a twist in the tale at the intermission point and the second
hour, therefore, shifts gears -- it changes from kabhi funny, kabhi drama to a prem kahani.
Itâs smooth sailing till thereâs another twist towards the pre-climax [wouldnât like to reveal it, since it would act as a
spoiler]. But, frankly, the film couldâve done without this track. The narrative, thankfully, is back on tracks soon after.
Anees Bazmee has a flair for writing great entertainers that work big time with the masala-loving junta. If youâve
loved NO ENTRY and WELCOME, youâd love SINGH IS KINNG too. This time, Bazmee shares the writing credits with Suresh Nair and
the duo come up with some real wacky episodes. In terms of production design, this is Bazmeeâs most lavish fare so far. Itâs
a grandiose product.
Pritamâs music is already popular and it compliments the goings-on completely. âBhootni Keâ, âJee Kardaâ and the title track
stand out, while âTeri Oreâ is easy on the nerves. Ben Nott and Sanjay Guptaâs cinematography is top notch.
Akshay Kumar takes rapid strides with SINGH IS KINNG. Sure, youâve seen him in comic fares time and again and perhaps, there
might be a doubt, Will he carry it off yet again? Oh yes, he does! Thereâs no saturation point as far as this actor is
concerned. He holds your attention in every sequence, irrespective of how strong the scene is, and thatâs the biggest
compliment for any actor. SINGH IS KINNG without Akki is like an ocean without marine life. Akshay rules!
The camera loves Katrina Kaif and it shows in SINGH IS KINNG too. She looks bewitching and enacts her part with tremendous
confidence. Kirron Kher is superb and so is Om Puri. Terrific performances! They compliment Akki so well. Ranvir Shorey is
first-rate. Sonu Sood is another actor whoâs finally getting his due in Hindi films. Javed Jaffreyâs character works big time
till he does a somersault in the pre-climax. Neha Dhupia is engaging. The nok-jhonk between Sudhanshu Pandey and
Yashpal Sharma is perfect. Manoj Pahwa is good.
On the whole, SINGH IS KINNG lives up to the hype and hoopla. Want a joyride without taxing your brains? Board the SINGH IS
KINNG wagon. At the box-office, the film will fetch a hurricane-like start. The paid previews, the opening weekend, the first
week business, everything will be record-shattering. Notwithstanding the new oppositions in the weeks to come, SINGH IS KINNG
will rule the hearts of the aam junta [whose verdict matters the most] as also the box-office, proving a record holder
in the final tally. Blockbuster Hit!

Steering clear of speculations that the movie title ‘Singh is Kinng’ was an assertion of his box office status, actor Akshay Kumar whose recent films have raked in nearly Rs 500 crore worldwide, said megastar Amitabh Bachchan is the real ‘King’. “Bachchan has been in the film industry over over 35 years and he is the real king. There are many who are around for 15-20 years and like to call themselves king. There is only one king and he is Amitabh Bachchan. I am merely acting in a film called Singh is Kinng,” Akshay said, without naming Shah Rukh Khan, who is called ‘King Khan’. He was speaking at a promotional event of ‘Singh is Kinng’ which will be released later this week. Many in trade cirlces had commented that the title ‘Singh is Kinng’ was an attempt on Akshay’s part to show that he was the “King of Bollywood”. To a question on whether his comments would fuel another round of speculations, Akshay said,” I said what I feel. Even after 35 to 40 years in the industry, Amitabh Bachchan is a humble man. He folds his hands when he speaks. I have worked with him in seven films. If my comments lead to a controversy, I dont care.”
Akshay, who is shooting in Los Angeles for Sajid Nadiadwala’s ‘Kambhakkt Ishq’, specially came here for three days to promote ‘Singh is Kinng’. He also participated in the inaugural show of Bachchan’s world tour ‘Unforgettable’ in Toronto on July 18.
When asked whom he was referring to in a recent statement daring his detractors to come out in the open, Akshay said he had not named any one and would not like to do so. “The message has been conveyed to the person who needed to know,” he added.

After Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra’s stint behind the mike it’s time for Udita Goswami to turn a singer, as the talented girl wants to make an album of her own someday but the actress quickly clarifies that the album is good 3-4 years far. She says, ‘’I love music and singing. I am sure that one day I would certainly come up with an album of my own. However, it won’t happen in near future. Maybe 3-4 years down the line. I have quite a few ideas in mind but it would take time to put them all into execution. Till then I wish to enjoy my new innings on celluloid.’’ Udita has already given a thought to the elements going to be involved in her album, adding, ‘’The album would certainly be a mix of all that I have loved hearing ever since childhood. I am fond of Hindi as well as English music. I can play them on for hours on my iPod and dance like a mad woman on and on. In fact I am unstoppable when left alone in a room that I can lock from inside. I don’t feel like withdrawing at all once I have got started.”
So what do you guys think about this new singer to be? Will she be successful at least this way? Well God knows better.

Sohail Khan Productions’ sequel to Partner, titled Partner 2, will not have Katrina Kaif in the lead. Does this professional decision have anything to do with Salman and Katrina’s souring personal relationship? Sohail Khan confirmed the news when he said, “The sequel to Partner will have the same leading actors - Salman and Govinda, but we are looking for different leading ladies.” David Dhawan is now working on the script of Partner 2, which will go on the floors in March, or latest April, next year. After which Dhawan is slated to do another film for Sohail Khan Productions, Amar Akbar Anthony. Katrina had an important role in Partner, released in 2007, where she played the unattainable beauty that Govinda lusted after. Salman played the love guru who helped Govinda attain her. This time, obviously, it will have to be another beauty. Is it a blow for Kat’s flourishing career? Well, considering she has been heard saying that she doesn’t want to do films with Salman any more, perhaps not.

The tussle between 70’s superstar Manoj Kumar and SRK- Farah Khan doesn’t seem to have ended. After months of keeping quiet on the whole controversy surrounding the way he was portrayed in last year’s blockbuster Om Shanti Om, veteran actor Manoj Kumar seems to have raised the issue once again. Manoj Kumar was upset with the way he had been made fun of in Om Shanti Om and had even asked Shah Rukh and Farah Khan to delete the particular scene in which one of his look-alikes is beaten up by the cops at a movie premiere. While SRK and Farah had initially assured the veteran actor that they would do the needful, the scene still continued to be in the film.
Now as Om Shanti Om gets all set to be premiered on TV, Manoj Kumar has decided that he had enough.
Furious by the whole fiasco, Manoj Kumar has reportedly filed a case against Shah Rukh Khan, Farah Khan in a city civil court asking for deletion of the scene or ordering a stay on the telecast of the film on national television.

Shahid Kapoor is turning heads after the box office success of his movie Jab We Met, but he has failed to turn the head of Munnabhai of Bollywood, Sanjay Dutt as he has lost out on a lucrative offer of working with Dutt to Imran Khan. Apparently Ashtavinayak wanted to have Shahid in their next flick Kidnap, but took Imran Khan on suggestion of Dutt, as the later did not find Shahid suitable for the role. An insider reveals, “Well both Sanjay and Shahid didn’t get along well during their last film Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! Shahid didn’t interact with him much and Sanjay thought that the young actor has an attitude problem. This irked Sanjay being a senior.”

According to the grapevine, Katrina Kaif has been chucked out of King Khan’s wolrd tour, Temptations Reloaded. Kaif’s birthday last month seems to have been a not so happy day for the b’day girl. Apparently, Sharukh and Salman got nasty with each other, and a word duel ensued. Salman hit Shah Rukh’s pain spot when he leg-pulled Shah Rukh for Paanchvi Pass’ lukewarm success.Shah Rukh, in turn touched Salman’s raw nerve when he said something not so becoming about Aishwarya Rai. According to sources, Salman took it very personally and lost his temper completely. Both the Khans were at loggerheads, and the guests at Katrina’s b’day party were forced to take sides. Now, Katrina being the reason for Salman’s presence at her party doesn’t seem to have gone down well with King Khan. Though he couldn’t do anything to Salman, he vented out his anger against Salman’s girlfriend Katrina.
Now, all’s not well even on that front. Rumour mills have been abuzz with stories of Salman, Katrina break-up following the embarrassing incidents at Katrina’s party. Looks like Salman is not Katrina’s lucky mascot anymore rather he is the reason behind her professional loss, or may be a personal one as well. Who knows?

After working with Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan Ashutosh Gowarikar now wants to work with Salman Khan. “It’s a long cherished dream to work with Salman Khan. As soon as I find a script which suits his image, I will approach him,” Gowarikar told PTI at the World Kids International Film Festival held in New Delhi recently. The director worked with Aamir in Lagaan, which was nominated for Oscar, and with Shah Rukh in Swades. The director, who is known for making period and issue-based films, is trying his hand on comedy for the first time in his upcoming film What’s Your Raashee? Also Read: Gifting Harman-Priyanka another love story
“I am trying to do something different in the film, which is a romantic comedy,” says Gowarikar about his latest film, starring the Love Story 2050 couple, Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra.
Though Harman’s debut film sank without a trace at the box office, the director is all praise for his performance in the film. “I signed Harman because he suits the character in What’s Your Raashee?. Besides, I liked Harman’s performance in Love Story 2050. He is a great dancer too,” says Gowarikar. The director also feels that Priyanka’s talent as an actor has remained underutilised so far in the film industry. “She is a good actor but I think she has a lot more to offer,” he said. “I am trying to bring something special out of her in my next venture,” he says.
Gowarikar’s What’s Your Raashee? is based on a Gujarati novel Kimball Ravenswood, written by noted author Madhu Rye. “This film is a challenge for me, as it is very difficult to make a comedy. But I like to face new challenges,” says the director. The director says that old comedies directed by veteran filmmakers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee are his all-time favourite films. “I am a big fan of Hrishida and Basuda. I love to watch Jyoti Swaroop directed Padosan again and again. That’s my favourite comedy film,” he says. Asked whether the director has any plans to return to acting, Gowarikar replied, “Right now, I am not really interested in acting. But I will consider acting provided a good character is offered to me.”
